Hand sewing can feel slow, frustrating, or even out of reach—especially when you're not sure how to hold your needle, how to choose the right thread, or how to sew with consistency and ease.
If you've ever felt stuck trying to finish a seam neatly, worried your stitches weren’t strong enough, or wished someone would just show you how to hold a thimble without judgment—you’re not alone. Many of us weren’t taught these skills or were told there’s only one “right” way to sew.
In this welcoming, beginner-friendly workshop, Ziah (they/them)—the designer behind Ora Lin Patterns—walks you through the foundational skills of hand sewing for both garment construction and clean finishing work. You’ll learn how to choose needles and thread, how to push your needle through fabric with ease, and how to develop a steady rhythm that works for your hands.
Whether you’re sewing historical garments, repairing beloved pieces, or simply curious about slowing down your making practice, this class is here to meet you where you are—and help you stitch with more clarity, comfort, and joy.
You'll leave with:
- A fitted thimble selected for your hand
- High-quality linen thread for practicing and future use
- A curated selection of needles (two multi-size packs—think sharps, betweens, or embroidery needles from John James or Bohin)
- A printed reference handout for continued practice at home
